This fall, students from campuses in Manitoba, along with students in Ontario and countries around the world, are calling for action by federal and provincial governments as well as universities and colleges to ensure that high quality public post-secondary education is accessible to all.
We are calling for lower tuition fees.
A drop in college and university tuition fees in Manitoba guarantees two things: higher funding, and better access.
Since tuition fees in Manitoba were last reduced in 2000, enrollment has risen by over 35%, and funding has skyrocketed by 53%—two and a half times faster than inflation.
We are also calling for:
- an end to the provincial government’s plan to raise tuition fees in 2009;
- more funding for universities and colleges from federal and provincial governments;
- more answers and accountability from university and college administrations when it comes to spending and priorities.
The Drop Fees campaign relies on the participation of students, faculty and staff from all disciplines and departments, as well as partners from many movements and communities, in order to succeed. Throughout the fall, the campaign will build up towards mass actions in Winnipeg, Brandon, and other communities around Manitoba.
Join the campaign to DROP FEES, and increase quality of and access to education in Manitoba.
