REMEMBER, REMEMBER THE 5TH OF NOVEMBER
STUDENTS RALLY FOR FEE CUT, ABORIGINAL ACCESS
Winnipeg — University and college students will be rallying on campuses and converging on the Legislature on Wednesday this week. The students oppose plans by the Doer government to lift the tuition fee freeze, and are instead calling for lower tuition fees for all students, and concrete federal and provincial measures to improve Aboriginal students’ access to education.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 Student Day of Action
All morning: activities and rallies on campuses, march/bus to the Legislature
1:30 PM – Rally at the Legislature
“Today’s U.S. election is important for Manitoba politics, but it’s equally important for the Doer government to answer for its backwards policy decision to allow tuition fee hikes,” said David Jacks, Manitoba Chairperson “Manitobans want change too, changes like lower tuition fees and better access to education.”
Students are calling on the Manitoba Government to keep up with the times, pointing out that Aboriginal, low-income and middle-income students all need lower fees and more grants. Students in Ontario, Saskatchewan, and countries around the world are also participating in the November 5 day of action for accessible public education.
